Co-operation with the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe
One of the pillars of prevention work in the area of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is the division of labour with the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe (DAH), an NGO that was established in the 1980s from self-help groups.
Achieving More Together
While the Federal Centre for Health Education primarily targets the general population and particularly adolescents and young adults with its measures generally and LIEBESLEBEN specifically, the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe addresses specific sub-groups that are particularly affected by or at risk of HIV or other STIs, such as for example MSM (men who have sex with men) or people who inject drugs. To this end the Deutsche AIDS-Hilfe conducts individual measures, such as training sessions for medical staff and target-group-specific campaigns, e.g. »Ich weiß, was ich tu«, which is directly aimed at gay and bisexual men. This division of labour makes sense because the necessary credibility and target-group-appropriate address would not be achievable without the competence of the affected groups and an authentic insight into their ways of life and styles of communication.
